Gastroenterological Medicine: Helicobacter Pylori Gastritis

Medical Insurance is applied for sterile filtration to chronic gastritis

Since Helicobacter Pylori Gastritis is found in 1983, it is known as the causes of several diseases. Japan Helicobacter Academy strongly recommend performing sterile filtration to all Pylori Gastritis infected patients. This is to help curing or preventing from several diseases related to Pylori Gastritis, such as stomach cancer etc. Up until few years ago, the sterile filtration treatment is;

  1. Gastric and duodenal ulcer
  2. After the endoscope treatment of early gastric cancer
  3. Gastric MALT Lymphocyte Tumor
  4. Thrombocytopenic Purpura

limited to above four diseases.
Since end of February 2013, Medical Insurance start to cover sterile filtration treatment. But, endoscope exam is necessary before sterile filtration to check the existence of Gastric Cancer or degree of gastritis.

When compounded, Helicobacter Pylori Infected Gastritis metamorphoses to intestine cells.

They say about half of Japanese are infected by Helicobacter Pylori Gastritis, but infection rate itself is drastically reducing amongst younger generation due to the improvement of sanitation environment. But infection rate is high amongst middle aged personnel above 50’s. And, it does not mean that new infection has decreased. Most of them, pylori gastritis infected on the gastric mucosa at younger period and inflammation (gastric inflammation) is produced. Infection continues for whole life, and as the result of inflammation, belly may shrink at around the fundic gland which ooze gastric acid of gastric mucosa out. At the middle age, shrinkage is seen in about the half of infected patients. When this shrinkage advanced to highest level, gastric mucosa turns into the cell of intestine. These are considered as the base material.

About diagnosis of Helicobacter Pylori infection

None of the exam has 100% accuracy. So that depending on necessity, combination of; 1) Anti-Body method (Urine and blood), 2) Fecal Antigenic Agent (slops), 3) Urea Breath Test (with dosing the exclusive agent tablet, and check and analyses the aspirated air contents), 4) Rapid Urease Test, 5) Tissue Mirror Inspection method, 6) Cultural Method (gastric camera), tests are performed.

Sterile filtration treatment with acid reducer and antibacterial agent

Sterile Filtration are made by following procedure.

  1. Orally take acid reducer and 2 kinds of antibacterial agent for continuous 7 days. Main adverse effects are abdominal pains, diarrhea, disorder of taste, or disorder of liver function. To check mixed medication, please tell your doctor what medicine you are taking right now.
  2. 2 months after the treatment, judge sterile filtration is successfully completed or not.
  3. More than 90% will succeed, but if it is failed, secondary sterile filtration shall be done.

Scheduled Gastroscopy after Sterile Filtration

Possibility to be stomach cancer after sterile filtration is not 0%. It is known that the 99% of stomach cancer are coming from Pylori infected, and occurrence of stomach cancer will be reduced to 1/3 by sterile filtration. But for the person who is succeeded to sterile filtration has about 50 times provability risk to be stomach cancer compared with non-infected person. It is necessary to have scheduled gastric camera for early stage discovery.
